FOUNDart series created 18 years ago

Image
Well that took me back - updating my sites I came across the one i created 18 years ago.  The site is called FOUNDart series. The idea and thoughts as it evolved into different travel experiences. and it goes like this.  the first post titled 'the idea - 2007 Foundart Switzerland'  and says : i am travelling to Switzerland in August to spend a month with my daughter and her partner who live there and my initial idea of 'doing' art clicked finally this weekend ... i had been thinking for a while i would like to make a 'found art' series where i take small bits of art that look like finished pieces - small as in business card size - and have my website details on the back that tells the story of the 'found art' series and then to leave one at places along the way on my trip to switzerland and other places - so create and take 30 pieces and 'lose' one a day telling the story on the website. Perhaps even contact from the founder telling me of thei...

In Simplifying it Becomes So Complex

Image
In an effort to try and simplify ALL the things i do and enjoy i have taken my website and broken it up into areas - i thought this might make it easier for my readers so each area retains its own thread.  I am an artist living in #countrytasmania that also writes poetry, makes videos and maintains a variety of interests and it was making a single website 'all over the place' i hope this new system of mine works. it goes like this : blackfishartstasmania  - a front page info about the artist and many links to the artworks and lifestyle blog and you tube channel artist working daily - its all about the works, how, when, why -  studio work about my art Just began putting down all my poetry at  Emerald13 listing the works that are completed and available for sale -  blackfisharts art gallery artist newly moved to #countrytasmania - all the discoveries and enjoyment of place -  Regent Park Our youtube channel . DO LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK Perhaps now the titl...

A few cloths on the go - and "What If" ...

a couple of 'what if' trials & experimentation in slow stitching - with a little help from my friend. I am enjoying what is coming from this sesssion. There is a video on our youtube channel speaking about these cloths - you can view it here.

TIME is not a Line

Image
I started this piece a year ago, picking it up now and again.  The small squares were created first  The small squares are of eco dyed silk, indigo on cotton, indigo on blockout curtain materials and a very old hardanger which was an embroidery I began in my teens.  That is a long time to hold onto cloth. My mother and father used to visit their friends and play cards while my sister and i would read or listen to the radio.  More often than not I would take some embroidery to do. Now it is  woven into a whole of newer memories. It sat like this, in this format a very long time because, as happens more often than not, I didnt know what to do next. On one of the many creek walks i take from the studio to the bridge in our front yard the idea came to me as i was musing on the sun reflecting on the water.  And so the stitching began - my way of working is mostly intuitive and in this case, apart from drawing the circle on the back,  The stitches are...

#getaway little books & a beach walk (video)

Image
Early Summer i went on a #getaway to Boat Harbour - spent 3 days there soaking up the sun, isolation and beach.  A nice visit from V and lunch at the restaurant was a highlight.  I treat all my #getaways as a 'residency' and go on long walks, photography and do drawings, writing and reading. the drawings en plein air shown in the earlier blog post led to these two little books. fine art photography of my time at Boat Harbour can be found  here a short video of a beach walk at Boat Harbour #Tasmania

Day 13 of looking back at (13) projects - painting

Image
I am infatuated with 'place', a sense of place and our place within it and that art is a collision of the intellect and the visceral.  Abstraction excites me.  The struggle, in painting, continues to align concept/vision with ability, the technical aspects. This is why I work every day. The mornings are for computer work, admin, tidying (maybe), sorting, research and reading/writing. Working daily, on various projects and ideas I paint in the afternoons, across media including oil, acrylic, pastel and watermedia. Looking back on the last year, the struggle to abstraction continues. You can see abstractions in other artworks i do including artist books, asemic, prints, ipad drawings, photography and drawing.  1. search the label on this blog.  2. (check out the last 12 days of ' looking back' (label).

Day 12 of looking back at projects - chemigram

Image
Dedicated to #13 ..so, New Year reflections - 13 days of looking back on 13 projects over the last year Day 12 - chemigram. 2024 i discovered chemigrams and played (a lot) ... love what comes from process based art play. (wikipedia) Process. A chemigram is made by  painting with chemicals on photographic paper  and lies within the general domain of experimentation in the visual arts. It requires the use of materials from silver halide-based photography (light-sensitive paper, developer, and fixer), but it is not a photograph.
