Well that took me back - updating my sites I came across the one i created 18 years ago. The site is called FOUNDart series.
The idea and thoughts as it evolved into different travel experiences.
and it goes like this.
the first post titled 'the idea - 2007 Foundart Switzerland' and says :
i am travelling to Switzerland in August to spend a month with my daughter and her partner who live there and my initial idea of 'doing' art clicked finally this weekend ... i had been thinking for a while i would like to make a 'found art' series where i take small bits of art that look like finished pieces - small as in business card size - and have my website details on the back that tells the story of the 'found art' series and then to leave one at places along the way on my trip to switzerland and other places - so create and take 30 pieces and 'lose' one a day telling the story on the website.
Perhaps even contact from the founder telling me of their experience.
I step you through a process of creating small business card sized artworks from old collages that are overpainted and a design created. this image is a representation of a large number made for travel to Switzerland.
The idea is to 'lose' a few in different areas that are then FOUND by strangers. My website details is printed on the back along with 'you have a found a piece of art that is yours to keep'.
The website details each card that was 'lost' and the time and place. Sometimes a photo is taken of the place itself with the card in situ. The card above is recorded as :
found art 005 3 August 2007 - lost in the bookshop Orell Fussli, Gottfried Keller Str. - ground floor. 3.50pm
A few may be 'lost' on one day such as
here.
I am not a happy traveller but my daughter and her husband have lived (and travel avidly) in many countries so I have been fortunate to visit and experience places I may never have. So the 'foundart series' became a thing :
2010 I was a guest speaker at JUNCTION 2010 (Arts Festival) held in
Launceston Tasmania. my notes in the first post in relation to this event is :
with 1,000 delegates coming to town for the conference AND that i want to include the general population i am yet to determine how many pieces to do ...
they are all around business card size but i have no budget so we shall have to see ...i am using up all the scraps and bits and pieces that i have with the aim of doing a couple of hundred minimum ...
a few images below from various travel destinations ... and i did receive a few emails from people who FOUND the works and in one instance, in Italy while we were taking photographs inside a building where i had left a card on top of the post boxes, a couple came through and found the card ! English they were, and the conversation was so lovely about finding the card. She walked out on tippy toes to see if she could find another one !
once they had left, i left another one on top of the post boxes.
A comment from someone who found one of the cards
