i am excited to be planning a trip to visit my lovely daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren which has prompted me to look at the foundart series i created first in 2007 .... 10 years ago. The theory began like this - create small business card sized artworks before going on an overseas trip.  Put a label on the back inviting the founder of a small artwork to comment on a dedicated blog.  Each piece is 'lost' (placed) somewhere in the world for someone in the world to find. I first wrote (here) about the idea of a #giveaway of small collages to subscribers to my blog who sent their snail mail address and posted the collages out on 3 January 2026.  if you are one of those - let me know what you think about your piece. COLLAGE   It usually begins with collecting.   A collage creates a new whole by bringing together disparate elements. Familiar connections is disrupted and spaces to play are created from existing materials and remnants collected.   That wrapping paper you kept, cards, a painting by a relative or friend, newspaper headlines, fragments from daily life, magazine arms, legs, lips.   Then, from a new perspective a new life, a special appreciation beyond its own inherent meaning contributes to the overall message of a new work. Viewers search for meaning in the arrangement, and at the same time, their attention is drawn to the technicalities. Collage gives form to the diverse worlds of everyday life in often peculiar fragments emblematic of the chaos of realities and connection, for structure where meaning is individually invented and discovered. A few artworks are up on blackfisharts tasmania site -  there are paintings across media such as acrylic, oil, pastel featuring abstracts, pears and landscape. and  prints , most being one of a kind monoprints or digital.  Textiles are new to the site - years of slow stitching at night culminate in wall hangings such as these.  The section  Collage includes the textiles due to the way they are worked - a few analogue collages are loaded on the site. .   .  .

  Swiss Miss (Implosure) 40″x34″; collage on a print of a collage on rag paper; 2015 published  KOLAJ February 2018 On a trip to Switzerland to visit my lovely daughter and future son-in-law in 2013 I was creating collages in between sight seeing.  The final piece above started with this original that came together from Swiss magazines in my collage journal.  Stage1. Stage2. - once i was home again i scanned the original collage and added the red background, smoothed around the image and heightened the contrast in areas.  The image (above) was printed on 40x34" rag paper and I went to work on it - adding more collage elements, stencilling and pastel accents. The final piece, framed in a lovely hardwood, was exhibited in Tasmania in 2017.  See a short (silent) video here  exploring the details. 

I ordered book board - archival acid free - but got the thickness wrong (no surprise there).  It was so thin i could not use it for book covers at all ... so i went into my default 'what if' ... and a book idea percolated to the surface of my brain.   here it is in progress. working on another 'what if' book idea - for a workshop - going to finish the idea first and then send out information on a workshop to make the book (contact me if you are interested in getting update email regarding the workshop and details)

The Bridge Gallery in Burnie is a temporary space for the Art Gallery while construction of the Arts Centre is underway.  We travelled to Burnie to pick up the  Oistre book  which was a finalist in the Burnie Print Prize 2025 , and encountered a splendid, awe-inspiring exhibition. There are 21, i think, artist books where each artist responds to each Afghan womans experience of living in Afghanistan since the Taliban takeover in 2021. i have posted a few images i took on our visit (below).  The images are not 'professional' but give me a sense of the presentation and ideas that i enjoyed immensely. I love how each book presents as 'the same' however upon opening, each book has artwork entirely unique to the story of each Afghan woman.  The creativity and diversity of artwork and story kept me in the gallery, going from book to book, for nearly an hour.  Just marvellous.  Techniques included typesetting, drawing, painting, photography, printmaking...
