artist talk Burnie Regional Gallery - "Strange Faith"

it was an interesting artist talk organised by curator Allison Campbell with local artists Michael Muruste, David Hawley and Jaclyn Poke.  Titled "Strange Faith" the exhibition space is filled with large abstract works of Michael and David with Jaclyn's work filling a section of the gallery.  

Although subject matter of both abstract artists is not of concern, the Curatorial Statement, in part, speaks to the process that unites both. "Both approach painting as an act of discovery, allowing gesture, repetition and instinctive mark-making to become a language through which thought is made visible. Their works emerge not from fixed compositions, but through an unfolding dialogue between intuition, memory and material."

The Curatorial Statement continues to describe their ways of working with two thoughts that caught my attention. "Together, they demonstrate that abstraction is not an escape from reality but another way of encountering it" and 

"Strange Faith speaks to their shared trust in the creative process itself".

I took a few photos of the exhibition at the opening and after all the excitement of winning the Curator's Prize I never got back to it. This is the Out of Hand exhibition organised by Stitching and Beyond Hobart. AI is here, there and everywhere

 AI (artificial intelligence) is everywhere at the moment even in Tasmania. I am hearing and reading about it in art, science, literature, medicine. Wonderful playlist here on TED talks regarding AI and how it can be used in art including statistics and numbers as sculptures, patterns and moving visual feasts. A few of my own favourites from TED talks are listed at the bottom of this post. I enjoyed this article recently on AI stating the 17 best AI artworks created. I have been playing with AI on a website called Dalle2 that creates artworks out of the text you put into it. Initially I found it fun but quite quickly it then became un-rewarding for me and i wondered if it could work using my own art.
